BioRegistrator Software

BioRegistrator® software is the umbrella name for the HSB software. The BioRegistrator® software has a direct or an indirect link with biometrics. Through the years the BioRegistrator® software has been used in several vertical markets and in several continents. It has proven itself as an identity management platform. With the focus on international standards, transparency and flexibility the BioRegistrator® software is a good fit for your identity needs.

BioRegistrator® software can be split up into two different kinds of software platforms:

  • Online platform
  • Offline registration platform

Online platform – HSB ABIS

HSB ABIS is a next generation, multi-modal Automated Biometric Identification System. It serves as a storage and matching platform, to collect and search all kinds of biometric and personal data. It is part of the BioRegistrator® product suite. HSB ABIS is a flexible, open system with several innovations. It is used for registration, verification, identification, de-duplication and forensic applications. The modern web based user interface makes deployment a breeze.

The HSB ABIS has a three layer architecture;

  • Portal and Client Applications
  • Workflow Manager
  • Core Components

Portal and client applications

The HSB ABIS client consists of services for biometric data processing and matching, a web-based information portal and biometric data capture applications. This system can be adapted to every biometric workflow specified by the customer. This includes functionalities for biometric registration (enrollment), verification and identification. Furthermore, it supports management of personal information in the system. The combined functionality creates a versatile biometric identity management system.

The portal supports multiple biometric modalities, like fingerprints, face image, iris and DNA. During the capture of biometrics the software makes sure that the quality meets the pre-set quality thresholds. As for biographical and contextual data the application makes sure that the data is entered correctly by performing validation checks. The supported data fields and values can be configured according to e.g. customer format, STANAG 4715, EURODAC, or others.

Workflow manager

Often certain actions are just a single step in a bigger process, and it is desired that an individual action is carried out as part of that process. For example a process of searching for a latent image may consist of the following sequential steps:

  • uploading an image
  • performing a first automated extraction of minutiae
  • manual editing of minutiae by a forensic expert
  • submitting the latent for search
  • receiving a potential hit response
  • reviewing the hit by a forensic expert F1, confirming the hit
  • second review by forensic expert F2, confirming the hit
  • automated updating of status to confirmed hit, since there were two manual confirmations
  • sending an automated alert to the ABIS operator
  • linking the new latent to the found hit

It is useful to keep these actions grouped together and to be able to later review certain actions in context of the whole encompassing process. The HSB ABIS provides such a feature with its workflow manager component. This component enables the definition of tailor made processes, each defined by its individual actions and transitions. The supplier will translate the processes of the customer to such workflow processes and integrate those workflow processes into the HSB ABIS. This will be done in such a way that no knowledge of the definition the workflow processes is required for the operator of the ABIS. He or she will see a dynamically built screen showing the possible actions based on the current state of a workflow process. The main start menu will then contain buttons for starting different workflow processes, such as enrolling a new person, importing a latent etc.

There are two types of actions; they can either be automatic actions performed by the system (such as extracting the minutiae of a latent image) or manual actions performed by someone operating the HSB ABIS (such as the editing of the minutiae). A separate workflow service will be installed on the HSB ABIS server which will be continuously running in the background and will periodically check for any open automatic actions and process them.

Core components

HSB ABIS is a next generation, multi-modal Automated Biometric Identification System. It’s designed to be flexible, scalable and open. It serves as storage and matching platform, to collect and search all kinds of biometric and personal data. It is used for verification, identification, de-duplication and forensic applications. The functionality is controlled through a web-based modern user interface.

Offline Platform – BioRegistrator®

The offline platform is designed for the solution which doesn’t has an online connection or have a minimum online time. Often when registering individuals in rural and remote areas with limited or no access to internet. The solution is robust and easy to work with and everything collaborates towards capturing the highest quality biographic and biometric information.

Storing and keeping the data safe is vital for this solution. The data is stored multiple times and on several local locations. This ensures when the notebook breaks down the data is still safe. During the registration there is a transparent workflow which needs to be completed before a registration is finished. Via this workflow we ensure that everybody can only be registered once.

The solution captures different types of biometric modalities. The most common ones are fingerprint, face and iris. Next to the biographic information of a person proof can be added to the registration to strengthen the registration.

The solution is proven in remote and rural areas and the right fit for your offline registration needs.

Enrolment

The key to a successful biometric implementation is the registration phase. The better the quality of the registered biometric information, the better the matching results. HSB has gained extensive experience with the enrolment of people, developing and improving the BioRegistrator® Enrolment software product over many years. The result is an innovative and proven enrolment platform. Read more…

Verification and Identification

After the registration the unique identity of persons is established by performing verification or identification actions. A verification is a one to one comparison. The person carries their unique ID with him or her and this is verified using biometrics, resulting in a yes/match or no-match. The unique ID can be a number or code, but can also include a biometric template, stored on e.g. a smart card. An identification is a one to many comparison. Read more…
